The share extension (the FileCap entry in the iOS share sheet) is part of the app and needs no separate installation.

Getting started#

1. Install the app#

Install FileCap from the App Store, or open it from your company’s app catalogue if your organization distributes it through device management.

2. Connect the app to your FileCap server#

The app needs three things: the address of your FileCap server, the portal’s API key, and your email address. Administrators find the API key in the FileCap admin panel under Configuration > Add-ins and apps (see Add-ins and apps); it is the same key the Outlook add-ins use. There are three ways to provide the settings.

Sending files#

On the Transfer tab tap Send Files for documents from the Files app, or Send Photos & Videos for your photo library. The file picker opens right away; you can add more files later with Select Files / Select Media at the bottom of the form.
Add recipients (see below).
Choose the verification method.
Optionally set a subject, a message, the number of downloads and the retention period.
Tap Send Securely.

Configuration link#

A configuration link lets a user set up the FileCap app with one tap instead of typing a server address and API key. The link carries the portal host, the API key, the sender’s email address and optionally the mobile number. The app applies the settings, verifies them with the server, shows the result and returns to the Send screen. If verification fails, the previous settings are restored.

MDM configuration#

FileCap for iOS supports Apple’s managed app configuration: an MDM server pushes a small dictionary of settings to the app on every enrolled device. The app applies those settings itself, so the user never types a server name or API key, and locks every setting delivered by MDM so it cannot be changed on the device.

Sending the app log to support#

Every screen of the app writes to a diagnostic log on the device. To send it:

Open Settings and tap View Logs.
Tap Email Logs to Support. The Mail app opens with the log attached and the device, app and server details prefilled; describe the problem and send.

If no mail account is set up on the device, use Share on the same screen to send the log with another app.
