Which add-in do I have?#
FileCap has two Outlook add-ins. They are configured differently, they log to different places, and the fixes for one do not apply to the other. Start here, so the rest of the troubleshooting matches what is actually installed.
Knowing you use “Outlook Classic” is not enough: Outlook Classic can host either add-in.
Look at the ribbon#
Open a new mail and find the FileCap button.
| Where the button sits | Which add-in |
|---|---|
| Far left of the ribbon | The classic Outlook Add-in |
| Far right of the ribbon | The Office 365 Add-in |
What that means#
| Classic Outlook Add-in | Office 365 Add-in | |
|---|---|---|
| Installed by | An MSI on the workstation | Microsoft 365 deployment |
| Configured in | The Windows registry | The portal and Microsoft 365 |
| Logs to | Windows Event Viewer | The add-in itself, switched off by default |
| Troubleshooting | Outlook Add-in | Office 365 Add-in |
If the problem involves Event Viewer, it is the classic add-in by definition.
